Two Calamities Upon a Servant at The Time of Death Related to His (Her) Wealth

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

Yahyaa Ibn Mu’aadh (rahimahullaah) said:

”The creation have not heard (something) similar to two calamities upon a slave with regards to his wealth at the time of death; so it was said, ‘’what are they?’’ He said, ‘’All of it is taken away from him and he is questioned about all of it (on yaumul qiyaamah).’’

[End of Qoute] [Mukhtasar Minhaaj Al-Qaasideen page: 208]

What Is The Solution Before We Are Questioned?

Allaah (The Most High) said:

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لَا تُلْهِكُمْ أَمْوَالُكُمْ وَلَا أَوْلَادُكُمْ عَن ذِكْرِ اللَّهِ ۚ وَمَن يَفْعَلْ ذَٰلِكَ فَأُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْخَاسِرُونَ

O you who believe! Let not your properties or your children divert you from the remembrance of Allah. And whosoever does that, then they are the losers. [63:9]

And spend (in charity) of that with which We have provided you, before death comes to one of you and he says: “My Lord! If only You would give me respite for a little while (i.e. return to the worldly life), then I should give Sadaqah (i.e. Zakat) of my wealth , and be among the righteous [i.e. perform Hajj (pilgrimage to Makkah)]. [63:10]

And Allah grants respite to none when his appointed time (death) comes. And Allah is All-Aware of what you do. [63:11]

What  was Qaaroon Advised To Do With His Wealth and What Was His End When He Transgressed?

Allaah (The Most High) said:

Verily, Qarun (Korah) was of Musa’s (Moses) people, but he behaved arrogantly towards them. And We gave him of the treasures, that of which the keys would have been a burden to a body of strong men. When his people said to him: “Do not be glad (with ungratefulness to Allah’s Favours). Verily! Allah likes not those who are glad (with ungratefulness to Allah’s Favours). [28:76]

But seek, with that (wealth) which Allah has bestowed on you, the home of the Hereafter, and forget not your portion of legal enjoyment in this world, and do good as Allah has been good to you, and seek not mischief in the land. Verily, Allah likes not the Mufsidun (those who commit great crimes and sins, oppressors, tyrants, mischief-makers, corrupts). [28:77]

He said: “This has been given to me only because of knowledge I possess.” Did he not know that Allah had destroyed before him generations, men who were stronger than him in might and greater in the amount (of riches) they had collected. But the Mujrimun (criminals, disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, etc.) will not be questioned of their sins (because Allah knows them well, so they will be punished without account). [28:78]

So he went forth before his people in his pomp. Those who were desirous of the life of the world, said: “Ah, would that we had the like of what Qarun (Korah) has been given? Verily! He is the owner of a great fortune.”[28:79]

But those who had been given (religious) knowledge said: “Woe to you! The Reward of Allah (in the Hereafter) is better for those who believe and do righteous good deeds, and this none shall attain except those who are patient (in following the truth).” [28:80]

So We caused the earth to swallow him and his dwelling place. Then he had no group or party to help him against Allah, nor was he one of those who could save themselves. [28:81]

And those who had desired (for a position like) his position the day before, began to say: “Know you not that it is Allah Who enlarges the provision or restricts it to whomsoever He pleases of His slaves. Had it not been that Allah was Gracious to us, He could have caused the earth to swallow us up (also)! Know you not that the disbelievers will never be successful. [28:82]

A Characteristic of Those Hostile Ones Who Used to Insist That Their Misguidance Must Be Followed

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

Imaam Abdur-Rahmaan Bin Naasir As-Sadi (rahimahullaah) said:

And what is well known is that Allaah neither loves ignorance nor doubts, neither confusion nor misguidance; rather He loves the religion, knowledge and certainty.

Indeed, He (The Most High) rebuked confusion. He (The Most High) said:

‘’Say (O Muhammad): “Shall we invoke others besides Allah (false deities), that can do us neither good nor harm, and shall we turn on our heels after Allah has guided us (to true Monotheism)? – like one whom the Shayaateen (devils) have made to go astray, confused (wandering) through the earth, his companions calling him to guidance (saying): ‘Come to us.’ “Say: “Verily, Allah’s Guidance is the only guidance.’’ [Soorah Al An’aam: Ayah: 71]

Indeed, we have been commanded to ask Him (The Most High) to guide us to the straight path and this necessitates knowledge of the truth and acting upon it, and the Qur’aan is the cure, guidance and light.  The Muslims are agreed [upon the fact] that doubt and confusion are unpraiseworthy, and it is expected – absolutely- that a person who does not possess knowledge of something is obligated to keep quiet and seek knowledge via its (sound) sources.  Those atheists – the most doubtful of doubters, who command the people to eradicate the truth from the hearts in order to direct the hearts to other than it –  are opponents of the Book, the Sunnah and the consensus of those considered to be people of sound reasoning. They (atheists) are followers of their misguided leaders. [Ref 1]

Imaam Ismaa’eel Bin Abdur-Rahmaan [known as As-Sadee (rahimahullaah)] said:

The people of shirk said to the Muslims: ‘’follow our path and abandon the religion of Muhammad (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam)’’, so Allaah revealed the ayah: ‘’Say (O Muhammad): Shall we invoke others besides Allah (false deities), that can do us neither good nor harm, and shall we turn on our heels;’’ Meaning: (shall we turn into) disbelief ‘’after Allah has guided us (to true Monotheism)?’’, and so that we become like you? – those whom the devils have made to go astray in the earth.

And so that we become like you by disbelieving after believing, similar to a man who set out on a road with some people, but he got lost. So, the devils made him confused and he wandered in the earth, whilst his companions are on the (right) road. His companions started calling him saying: ‘’Come to us, we are on the (right) road”, but he refuses to go to them.  This is similar to the one who follows the (people of shirk) after being acquainted with the (message of) Muhammad (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam). And Muhammad (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) is the one calling to the (right) road and the road is Islaam. [Ref 2]

[Fir’awn]- An Oppressive Disbeliever Who Gave No Importance to the Affairs of a Particular Group of People in His Society

Allaah (The Most High) said:

إِنَّ فِرْعَوْنَ عَلَا فِي الْأَرْضِ وَجَعَلَ أَهْلَهَا شِيَعًا يَسْتَضْعِفُ طَائِفَةً مِّنْهُمْ يُذَبِّحُ أَبْنَاءَهُمْ وَيَسْتَحْيِي نِسَاءَهُمْ ۚ إِنَّهُ كَانَ مِنَ الْمُفْسِدِينَ

Verily, Fir’aun (Pharaoh) exalted himself in the land and made its people sects, weakening (oppressing) a group (i.e. Children of Israel) among them, killing their sons, and letting their females live. Verily, he was of the Mufsidun (i.e. those who commit great sins and crimes, oppressors, tyrants, etc.). [Soorah Al-Qasas Ayah 4]

Verily, Fir’aun (Pharaoh) exalted himself in the land]; (exalted himself)] in his kingdom, authority, army and might.

[وَجَعَلَ أَهْلَهَا شِيَعًا – and made its people sects]; – (divided them into) different groups, behaved towards them in a way that suited his desires and executed his dominance and strength amongst them based on what he wished.

[يَسْتَضْعِفُ طَائِفَةً مِّنْهُمْ – weakening (oppressing) a group among them]; that group was Bani Israa’eel whom Allaah preferred above mankind during their era – who were worthy of being honoured and elevated, however he oppressed them. He neither cared about them nor gave importance to their affairs, to the extent that he [يُذَبِّحُ أَبْنَاءَهُمْ وَيَسْتَحْيِي نِسَاءَهُمْ  – killing their sons, and letting their females live]- out of fearing that they will become many, plentiful in his land and have kingship.

[إِنَّهُ كَانَ مِنَ الْمُفْسِدِينَ – Verily, he was of the Mufsidun]- those who neither intend rectification in the affairs of the religion nor in the worldly affairs, and this was his corruption in the earth.

[2] Among Those Aayaat That Reminds Us of the Importance of Constantly Striving To Purify Our Hearts

[2] Among Those Aayaat That Reminds Us of the Importance of Constantly Striving To Purify Our Hearts

Allaah (The Most High) said:

وَأُزْلِفَتِ الْجَنَّةُ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ غَيْرَ بَعِيدٍ

هَٰذَا مَا تُوعَدُونَ لِكُلِّ أَوَّابٍ حَفِيظٍ

مَّنْ خَشِيَ الرَّحْمَٰنَ بِالْغَيْبِ وَجَاءَ بِقَلْبٍ مُّنِيبٍ

And Paradise will be brought near to the Muttaqun (pious) not far off.  (It will be said): “This is what you were promised, – (it is) for those oft-returning (to Allah) in sincere repentance, and those who preserve their covenant with Allah (by obeying Him in all what He has ordered, and worship none but Allah Alone, i.e. follow Allah’s Religion, Islamic Monotheism). “Who feared the Most Beneficent (Allah) in the Ghaib (unseen): and brought a heart turned in repentance…[Soorah Qaaf. Aayaat 31-33]

[مَّنْ خَشِيَ الرَّحْمَٰنَ بِالْغَيْبِ – Who feared the Most Beneficent (Allah) in the Ghaib (unseen)];That is: He fears Allaah due to his knowledge and aware of Allaah, hoping for Allaah’s Mercy and being constant in fearing Allaah when he is alone and not with the people. This is fear of Allaah in reality. (Ref 1) or fears Allaah in this worldly life before seeing and meeting Allaah in the afterlife. (Ref 2)

[وَجَاءَ بِقَلْبٍ مُّنِيبٍ  – And brought a heart turned in repentance]- turned in repentance to Allaah with complete submission. It may be that a person repents, abandons his sin and does not commit it again, but his submission to Allaah is weak. As for Inaabah [i.e. turned in repentance], it is complete submission to Allaah. [1] Among Those Aayaat That Reminds Us of the Importance of Constantly Striving To Purify Our Hearts

Allaah (The Most High) said:

يَوْمَ لَا يَنْفَعُ مَالٌ وَلَا بَنُونَ

إِلَّا مَنْ أَتَى اللهَ بِقَلْبٍ سَلِيمٍ

The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail; Except him who brings to Allah a clean heart. [Soorah Ash-Shu’araa..Aayaat 88-89]

This (i.e. clean heart) is what will benefit you, save you from punishment and make you worthy of abundant reward (i.e. in the afterlife).

Some Characteristics of the Clean Heart

It is free from Shirk, doubt (i.e. about the religion) and love of evil.

It does not persist upon Bidah and Sins (i.e. it returns to repentance).

It is characterised with sincerity, certainty (i.e. about the religion) and love of good.

What it loves and desires agrees with what Allaah loves and what Allaah has revealed (i.e. the Qur’aan and the Sunnah).

To be continued. InShaaAllaah

Just a Thought or Perhaps a Reminder to Share Regarding WhatsApp Groups

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

Indeed, some of the well-known doubt mongers and hizbiyyoon -after being refuted and exposed- go undercover in the WhatsApp groups. As we all know that in most cases WhatsApp groups have no borders because one can easily be added to a group regardless his (or her) location.

Firstly: Why should we waste our valuable time by accepting invitations from everyone who opens a group, rather we should be extremely selective. Groups with students of knowledge or responsible elders are very few; therefore we have to be extremely selective!

Secondly: It would be very naive of us if we just accept the invitation of anyone without being absolutely sure of his Aqeedah, Manhaj, affiliations and companionship. And even if such a person is of sound Aqeedah and Manhaj, then should we not still ask ourselves whether we have a need of joining such a group or whether it would not divert us from more important affairs in our lives.

Thirdly: We sometimes find that WhatsApp groups can provide a platform for every hidden doubt monger to voice his views, and then it takes a lot of time for another person to reply to those doubts. This further opens a door of prolonged argumentation and debate, which–regardless its praiseworthy intended goals- diverts us from more important affairs; or it leaves some in doubt, whom we cannot approach immediately in person to offer clarifications. Therefore, would it not be better that we adopt the principle ”Prevention is better than cure”; rather than either having to try and reach those who have already been affected or debating with those who sneak into those groups to propagate Shubuhaat.

Fourthly: Yes indeed, sometimes some of us do start groups for a genuine or important need, but would it not be better and safer that we consult a Salafi student in order to make sure that we will not be engaging in some time wasting, even though our intention is not to do so.

Finally: Why don’t we choose the safe alternative by opening a Telegram group, where people are reminder about lessons in the Masjid or important events in the community. This- InShaaAllaah- solves the problem as no one will be allowed to post anything other than the admin. I personally find that a lot of my time has been spared and spent on other more important things -family, reading, listening to Duroos of the Scholars and the Students, engaging in discussions on Masjid Admin affairs – rather than having to look at my phone numerous times during the day or evening. I suggest that you do speak to the students before joining or allowing people in these groups, lest your valuable time is squandered. And Allaah knows best.

Manhaj Questions and Answers on the Opposers, Innovators, on Companionship, Tabdee, Hajar and Related Affairs [By Shaykh Muhammad bin Haadee al-Madkhalee]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

Indeed, the noble Salafi teachers – both the younger ones and those over the age of forty- in the Masaajid and Centres are busy teaching the books of Aqeedah and Fiqh, and the elder students- in particular – are busy nurturing the youngsters and the new comers to Salafiyyah; however this does not mean that one becomes oblivious of those other very important affairs of the Manhajus Salafi, knowledge and sound stances that safeguarded many of us by the Tawfeeq of Allaah.

It is very important to bear in mind that many of those elder students at Salafipublications who were guided to the sound Salafi Methodology realised the importance of transmitting some very important clarifications of the scholars regarding the manner in which a Salafi approaches the Mukhaalifoon (the opposers), the Mumayyi’oon (those who seek to dilute the sound Salafi stances against the deviants) and the Hizbiyyoon (the illegal partisans). We are not saying that one merely reads and then goes out to apply these clarifications straight away; rather one reads and asks the students, especially those students who transmitted these clarifications and have numerous tapes in refutation against ahlul bidah (people of innovation).

Indeed, those clarifications compiled years ago are still relevant and we cannot shy away from them. However, it must be emphasised that we always refer back to the students in the Maraakiz, especially the elder ones, to advise us whenever we face certain situations in relation to dealing with the Mukhaalifeen, the Mu’mayyi’oon, the Hizbiyyoon and the people of Bidah, or when giving Dawah to a person who is confused about certain affairs related to the Salafi Manhaj. We ask Allaah for Ikhlaas, Thabaat and Husnul Khaatimah Aameen. So benefit from the likes of the following articles at salafipublications.com

Reminder to Our Noble Brothers and Sisters at Masjid Al-Furqan [Stoke]

Assalaamu alaykum warahmatullaahi wabarakaatuhu

Pray you are all well.

All praise is due to Allaah that now you have regular lessons twice a week and this is a great blessing. May Allaah bless you all and grant you Thabaat Aameen.

However, it is also very important that we all strive to acquaint ourselves with other issues of this blessed Salafi Manhaj provided by many of the students in the various beneficial websites. We have come across some people who do not read in order to acquaint themselves with important issues, or they suffice themselves with short audio clips and twitter messages. Indeed, if this was sufficient, the students would not have set up the website salafipublications.com during the early years; rather the likes of salafipublications.com contained and still contain valuable information on many affairs of the Salafi Manhaj.

Brother Naeem – one who preceded all of us in Salafiyyah- will testify to the fact that hours were spent reading material at Salafipublications.com in the early days in order to acquaint ourselves with important issues of the Manhaj. By the grace of Allaah, we learnt a lot.

Yes indeed, it is not possible for all of us to allocate a lot of time on reading due to our different worldly commitments, but I am quite sure that we can all allocate 30 mins every week to visit some of the useful websites that are being constantly updated. Sometimes we ask the same questions whenever something occurs, however had we allocated time to read, the affair would have been made easier by the Tawfeeq of Allaah.

There is no harm asking and seeking clarification, but there are many issues we usually ask about that have already been clarified by the elder students in various websites based on the works of the scholars. Therefore, let us not isolate ourselves with only what is going on in our masjid or centre, or the other lessons we attend in Manchester; rather we must allocate time to read other issues which are not addressed in the Duroos we attend. The following websites are among those useful ones and there are others as well.

Not Every Righteous or Well-Mannered Man Is Suitable For Leadership Or to Be Placed In a Position of Authority

Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah (rahimahullaah) stated whilst discussing the subject matter of Imtihaan (i.e. testing):

And likewise, when he (i.e. a person) desires to give someone a position of authority, he tests him (imtahanahu), just as Umar Ibn Abdul Azeez commanded his servant to test Ibn Abee Moosaa (yamtahinahu) when his mannerism amazed him (somewhat), so he said to him, “You know of my position with the Ameer ul-Mumineen, so how much will you give me if I indicate (the appropriateness) of your (being given) authority to him? So he gave him a great amount of wealth. And from this Umar knew that he was not fit for authority.
