Is There a Difference Between Sending Salaams Upon The Prophet From Far Away or At Close Proximity – A Brief Clarification By Imaam Albaani (rahimahullaah)

Question:
What is the difference between sending salaams upon the Prophet in a land other than Madeenah al-Munawwarah and the standing of person in front of his grave? [i.e. the grave of the Prophet (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam)]
Answer:
There is no different between this (i.e. sending salaams upon the Prophet in a land other than Medeenah) and that (i.e. the standing of a person in front of the grave of the Prophet). It has been reported about a member of the Prophet’s family that he saw a man sitting beside the grave of the Prophet (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam), so he asked him the reason for that, so he (i.e. the man) said that he was sending salaams upon the Prophet (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam). Then he ( i.e. the relative of the Prophet) told the man that the one who sends salaams upon the Prophet here (i.e. near his grave) is the same as the one who sends salaams upon the Prophet from Andalus (i.e. Spain). And from the affairs that are specific to the Prophet (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) and have not been given to anyone else is what he (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) stated: ‘’Allaah has angels who go around on earth, conveying to me the salaams of my Ummah.” [Reported by An-Nasaa’ee 3/43 also see Saheeh At-Targheeb No: 1664]
As for the hadeeth: ‘’Whoever sends salaams upon me from far away, I am informed about it; and whoever sends salaams upon me at close proximity, I hear him”; it was reported by Al-Uqaylee (rahimahullaah) in Ad-Du’afaa 4/137 and he says that it has no basis. Ibn Jawzee (rahimahullaah) reported it in Al-Mawdoo’aat (i.e. fabricated narrations) No: 862]

Ponder upon the end result of the worldly life – Ibn ul Jawzee ( rahimahullaah )

Imaam Ibnul Jawzee (rahimahullaah) said:
Whoever ponders upon the end result of the worldly life will be cautious, and whoever is certain about the long distance of the journey (i.e. the hereafter) will prepare for the journey. How amazing is your affair O you the one who has certainty about an affair, but then you forget about it. The harm of the state of affairs is real, but you are unconscious of it! You fear the people, whilst Allaah is more worthy of being feared! You are overwhelmed by what you presume and not by what you are certain of. And among the most amazing of affairs is your happiness with beguilement and forgetfulness in amusement in that which will come to an end. You are deceived by your health and forgetful of the approach of illness. You rejoice with your well-being and are heedless of the close approach of agony. Indeed, the death of other than yourself should show you your death and the death bed of other than yourself has been made visible before (your)death. Indeed you are pre-occupied with your inclination towards pleasures (i.e. forbidden ones) and (diverted) from remembrance of the destruction of yourself. It is as if you have not heard of the news about those who have passed away and that you have not seen what time has done to those who have remained. And if you do not know, then those are their dwelling places and graves before you, destroyed by the winds.

If you fast in this worldly life –
restraining your (soul’s desire for drink by being) thirsty out of obedience to your Lord (Glorified and Exalted Be He) and abandoning your desires out of obedience to your Lord (Glorified and Exalted Be He), then indeed Allaah will recompense you on the Day of Judgement by resurrecting you whilst you are satiated with drink when the people are thirsty, the sun a mile over their heads and soaked in sweat to the extent that it (i.e. the water from sweating) will extend from the unbeliever’s throat to his (or her) nose – completely drowned in sweat, and Allaah’s refuge is sought. But as for the believer, he (or she) will be shaded due to obedience to Allaah (Glorified and Exalted Be He).

Created to Know Our Creator and to Worship Our Creator Alone!
Shaikh Abdur-Razzaaq Al-Badr
Allaah (The Most High) said:
It is Allah Who has created seven heavens and of the earth the like thereof (i.e. seven). His Command descends between them (heavens and earth), that you may know that Allah has power over all things, and that Allah surrounds (comprehends) all things in (His) Knowledge.” [Soorah At-Talaaq: Ayah: 12]
Allaah (The Most High) said:
وَمَا خَلَقْتُ الْجِنَّ وَالْإِنسَ إِلَّا لِيَعْبُدُونِ
And I (Allah) created not the jinns and humans except they should worship Me (Alone). [Soorah Dhariyaat: Ayah: 56]

The Study of Tawheed – Shaikh Abdur-Razzaaq Al-Badr (may Allaah preserve him)

The Study of Tawheed
Shaikh Abdur-Razzaaq Al-Badr (may Allaah preserve him)
The study of Tawheed is based on seeking knowledge about the Oneness of Allaah in His Lordship, Names and Attributes and His sole right to be worshipped without partners. This is the most virtuous of all knowledge. And among the virtues of Tawheed is that it is what makes acts of worship sound and accepted by Allaah (The Mighty and Majestic). All acts of worship-be they few or numerous-are not accepted unless when established upon Tawheed. And for this reason, Allaah (The Most High) said:
فَمَنْ كَانَ يَرْجُوا لِقَاءَ رَبِّهِ فَلْيَعْمَلْ عَمَلًا صَالِحًا وَلَا يُشْرِكْ بِعِبَادَةِ رَبِّهِ أَحَدًا
”So whoever hopes for the Meeting with his Lord, let him work righteousness and associate none as a partner in the worship of his Lord.” That is: (righteous actions) sincerely perform for Allaah (alone).” [Soorah Al-Kahf: Ayah:110]
And in another ayah, Allaah (The Mighty and Majestic) said:
وَمَنْ أَرَادَ الْآَخِرَةَ وَسَعَى لَهَا سَعْيَهَا وَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌ فَأُولَئِكَ كَانَ سَعْيُهُمْ مَشْكُورًا
”And whoever desires the Hereafter and strives for it, with the necessary effort due for it (i.e. do righteous deeds of Allaah’s Obedience) while he is a believer (in the Oneness of Allah Islamic Monotheism), then such are the ones whose striving shall be appreciated, thanked and rewarded (by Allah).”[Soorah Al-Israa: Ayah: 19]
Therefore acts of worship will not be accepted, except when accompanied by Tawheed. And if Tawheed is absent, then acts of worship will not be accepted. Allaah (The Most High) said:
وَمَا مَنَعَهُمْ أَنْ تُقْبَلَ مِنْهُمْ نَفَقَاتُهُمْ إِلَّا أَنَّهُمْ كَفَرُوا بِاللَّهِ وَبِرَسُولِهِ
”And nothing prevents their contributions from being accepted from them except that they disbelieved in Allah and in His Messenger (Muhammad)….”[Soorah At-Tawbah: Ayah: 54]
And Allaah (The Most High) said:
وَلَقَدْ أُوحِيَ إِلَيْكَ وَإِلَى الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِكَ لَئِنْ أَشْرَكْتَ لَيَحْبَطَنَّ عَمَلُكَ وَلَتَكُونَنَّ مِنَ الْخَاسِرِينَ (65) بَلِ اللَّهَ فَاعْبُدْ وَكُنْ مِنَ الشَّاكِرِينَ
”And indeed it has been revealed to you (O Muhammad), as it was to those (Allah’s Messengers) before you: “If you join others in worship with Allah, (then) surely (all) your deeds will be in vain, and you will certainly be among the losers.” Nay! But worship Allah (Alone and none else), and be among the grateful.” [Soorah Az-Zumar: Ayah: 65-66]
And Allaah (The Most High) said:
وَمَنْ يَكْفُرْ بِالْإِيمَانِ فَقَدْ حَبِطَ عَمَلُهُ
”And whosoever disbelieves in the Oneness of Allah and in (one or all the other Articles of Faith [i.e. His (Allah’s), Angels, His Holy Books, His Messengers, the Day of Resurrection and Al-Qadar (divine Preordainments)], then fruitless is his work’’[Soorah Al-Maa-idah:Ayah:5]
Therefore, actions (i.e. acts of worship, righteous actions) cannot be sound and they are not accepted by Allaah, unless when founded upon Tawheed, and sincerely carried out for the sake of Allaah.

What Are Righteous Deeds? Imaam ash-Shanqeeti (rahimahullaah)

What Are Righteous Deeds?- By Imaam Ash-Shanqeeti (rahimahullaah)
Imaam Shanqeetee (rahimahullaah) said:
Indeed, the great Qur’aan has clarified that a righteous deed is that which accomplishes three affairs, and when one of them is not present its performer will not be benefitted on the day of Judgement.
The first affair: The (deed) has to be accordance with what the Messenger (sallal-laahu-alayhi wasallam) was sent with. That is because Allaah (The Most High) stated:
وَمَا آتَاكُمُ الرَّسُولُ فَخُذُوهُ وَمَا نَهَاكُمْ عَنْهُ فَانتَهُوا
And whatsoever the Messenger (Muhammad) gives you, take it, and whatsoever he forbids you, abstain (from it).” [Soorah Al-Hashar: Ayah: 7]
Allaah (The Most High) said:
مَّن يُطِعِ الرَّسُولَ فَقَدْ أَطَاعَ اللَّهَ
He who obeys the Messenger (Muhammad), has indeed obeyed Allah. [Nisaa: Ayah: 80]
Allaah (The Most High) said:
قُلْ إِن كُنتُمْ تُحِبُّونَ اللَّهَ فَاتَّبِعُونِي
Say (O Muhammad to mankind): ‘If you (really) love Allah then follow me.’[Aal Imraan: Ayah: 31]
Allaah (The Most High) said:
أَمْ لَهُمْ شُرَكَاءُ شَرَعُوا لَهُم مِّنَ الدِّينِ مَا لَمْ يَأْذَن بِهِ اللَّهُ
Or have they partners with Allah (false gods), who have instituted for them a religion which Allah has not allowed. [Soorah Ash-Shooraa: Ayah: 21]
The second affair: The (deed) is to be carried out sincerely for the sake of Allaah. That is because Allaah (The Most high) stated:
وَمَا أُمِرُوا إِلَّا لِيَعْبُدُوا اللَّهَ مُخْلِصِينَ لَهُ الدِّينَ
And they were commanded not, but that they should worship Allah, and worship none but Him Alone (abstaining from ascribing partners to Him)’’ [Soorah Al-Bayyinah: Ayah: 5]
Allaah (The Most High) said:
Say (O Muhammad): ‘Verily, I am commanded to worship Allah (Alone) by obeying Him and doing religious deeds sincerely for Allah’s sake only and not to show off, and not to set up rivals with Him in worship; “And I am commanded (this) in order that I may be the first of those who submit themselves to Allah (in Islam) as Muslims.” Say (O Muhammad): “Verily, if I disobey my Lord, I am afraid of the torment of a great Day.” Say (O Muhammad) “Allah Alone I worship by doing religious deeds sincerely for His sake only and not to show-off, and not to set up rivals with Him in worship.” [Soorah Az-Zumar: Ayah: 11-14]
The third affair: The (deed) has to be founded upon a sound creed. Allaah (The Most High) said:
وَمَن يَعْمَلْ مِنَ الصَّالِحَاتِ وَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌ
And he who works deeds of righteousness, while he is a believer (in Islamic Monotheism).
Therefore, Allaah, (tied) the (deed of the doer and the condition of its acceptance), saying: ‘’While he (i.e. performer) is a believer’’.[Soorah Taahaa: Ayah: 112]
And (The Most High) stated regarding the deeds of those who [have no belief in Allaah and His Messenger (sallal-lal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam)]:
وَقَدِمْنَا إِلَىٰ مَا عَمِلُوا مِنْ عَمَلٍ فَجَعَلْنَاهُ هَبَاءً مَّنثُورًا
And We shall turn to whatever deeds they (disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, etc.) did, and We shall make such deeds as scattered floating particles of dust.’’ [Soorah Al-Furqaan: Ayah: 23]
And Allaah (The Most High) said:
أُولَٰئِكَ الَّذِينَ لَيْسَ لَهُمْ فِي الْآخِرَةِ إِلَّا النَّارُ ۖ وَحَبِطَ مَا صَنَعُوا فِيهَا وَبَاطِلٌ مَّا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ
They are those for whom there is nothing in the Hereafter but Fire; and vain are the deeds they did therein. And of no effect is that which they used to do. [Soorah HUD: Ayah: 16]
And other than it from the Aayaat (of the Qur’aan)

Patience During Calamities’With Short Commentary by Shaikh Bin Baaz (rahimahullaah)
Narrated Anas Bin Maalik (radiyallaahu-anhu) The Prophet (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) passed by a woman who was weeping beside a grave. He told her to fear Allah and be patient. She said to him, “Go away, for you have not been afflicted with a calamity like mine.” And she did not recognize him. Then she was informed that he was the Prophet. So she went to the house of the Prophet and there she did not find any guard. Then she said to him, “I did not recognize you.” He said, “Verily, the patience is at the first stroke of a calamity.” [1]
Imaam Abdul Azeez Bin Baaz (rahimahullaah) said: This hadeeth is in relation to the time when one is excused for (grieving). It is incumbent upon him to exercise patience and hope for the (reward and mercy of Allaah,) and not to become (weak and fearful at heart, which may lead to questioning the decree of Allaah) [2]
