Our Salaf: Imaam Ahmad–an example of humility

Imaam Dhahabi (rahimahullaah) reported: Muhammad Ibn Al-Hasan Bin Haaroon (rahimahullaah): ”I saw Abu Abdillaah-Ahmad Bin Hanbal–that when he walked on the road, he hated that anyone should follow him.”  I (i.e. Adh-Dhahabi) say: Preferring to be unknown;  being humble and filled with fear (of Allaah) are from the signs of Taqwah and success.

Our Salaf: Bishr Ibn Al-Haarith-an example of humility

A man came to Bishr Ibn Al-Haarith (rahimahullaah) and kissed (his forehead), saying: O Abu Nasr my master! So when the man left, Bishr said to his companions: “A man loves another man based on news he presumes to (be true). And it may be that the one who has that love will be saved and the one who is loved does not know what his state of affairs will be.”

Our Salaf: Ibn Umar–[kind treatment towards animals]

Wahb Ibn Kaysaan (rahimahullaah) narrated that Ibn Umar (radiyallaahu-anhu) saw a shepherd and some sheep in a filthy place, and he saw (another) place better than it. So he said to the shepherd: Woe to you, O shepherd! Move your sheep (to the better place); for indeed I heard the Messenger of Allah (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) saying: ”Every shepherd is responsible for his flock.” [1]

Shaikh Zaid Bin Haadi (rahimahullaah) said: This hadeeth shows the obligation of kind treatment towards those under one’s care, whether a human being or cattle…. [2]

We Should Not Be Speaking In The Presence of Our Elders

Ibnul Mubaarak (rahimahullaah) was asked a question about an affair of the religion in the presence of Sufyaan Bin Uyaynah (rahimahullaah); so he said:”We have been forbidden from speaking in the presence of our elders”

Our Salaf: Fudayl Ibn Iyaad

Fudayl Ibn Iyaad (rahimahullaah) said:

”By Allaah! It is not permissible for you to harm neither a dog nor a pig without right; so how can you harm a muslim?!”

Our Salaf: Ali Ibnul Husayn Bin Ali Bin Abee Taalib (rahimahullaah)

Ali Ibnul Husayn Bin Ali Bin Abee Taalib (rahimahullaah) used to sit with Aslam the freed slave of Umar (radiyallaahu-anhu); so a man from Quraish said to him: “You leave Quraish and sit with a slave of the clan of Adiy?” So he said: “Indeed a man sits where he benefits”

[3] Beware of Goldie [Abu Usama (The Man of Bidah)]–Why Was Yahyah Bin Ma’een Hated and Why Is Shaikh Rabee Slandered and Hated ?!

Muhammad Ibn Haaroon Al-Fallaas (rahimahullaah) said: If you see a man speaking ill of Yahyah Bin Ma’een, then know that he is a liar who fabricates hadeeth. He only hates him (i.e. hates Yahyah) because of what he clarifies concerning the affair of the liars.[1]

Question to Al-Allaamah, Shaikh Saaleh Al-Luhaydaan (may Allaah preserve him):

”Why is there so much speech about Shaikh Rabee (may Allaah preserve him) and why do they speak ill of him?”

Answer:

How excellent a man he is in his creed and jealousy for the Sunnah! And there is no doubt that those who speak against him do so because he refutes those who oppose the Sunnah.  They hate him because he refutes the Mukhaalifoon (i.e. opposers of the Sunnah and the sound methodology of Ahlus Sunnah). And perhaps the one who does not oppose (the Sunnah) envies him because he cautions against what that person does not realize.  How excellent a man in knowledge and religion! [2]

He who cheats (or deceives) does not belong to me!

Abu Hurairah (radiyallaahu-anhu) narrated that the Messenger of Allaah (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) passed by a pile of food and put his hand into it, and his fingers touched something wet. He said, ”What is this, O seller of the food?” The man said, ”It was (made wet) by the rain, O Messenger of Allaah.” He said, ”Why did you not put (the wet part) on top of the pile so that the people could see it? He who deceives does not belong to me.”

[2] Good Manners- [The effects of Shyness and Obscenity]

Anas Ibn Maalik (radiyallaahu-anahu) narrated that the Prophet (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) said: ”Shyness (1) does not reside in anything except that it beautifies it. And obscenity does not reside in anything except that it uglifies it.” (2)

———————————————————————————————————————————————-

(1) It is that shyness in the presence of Allaah, which prevents a person from abandoning obligations and committing evil; or  prevents a person from taking away the rights of the people; or prevents a person from evil speech and actions.
