Reminders from Imaam Ibnul Qayyim and Al-Allaamah Al’Mu-allimee

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim (rahimahullaah) stated in Al’Fawaa-id [page 78]:

The slave does not embark upon what he has been forbidden except through two ways; Firstly: (Either) harbouring evil thoughts about his Lord that if he were to obey Allaah and preferred Him, He (Glorified Be He) will not grant him that which is better from the lawful (things).  Secondly: (Or) his acknowledgement that (Allaah will grant him something better than the forbidden thing he pursues) and that whoever leaves something for Allaah’s sake, He (Glorified Be He) will replace it with something better; but lusts overcomes his patience and desires (overcomes) his intellect. The first affair is due to weakness in knowledge and the second a weakness in intellect and insight.

Al-Allaamah Abdur-Rahmaan Ibn Yahyah Al’Mu-allimee (rahimahullaah) stated in [التَّنْكِيل بِماَ فِي تَأْنِيبِ ٱلْكَوْثَري مِنَ الأباَطِيلVol 2. Page.179 with the checking of Imaam Albaanee (rahimahullaah): ”The human being does not hate truth as a result of considering it to be falsehood; but he loves truth by way of his Fitra (natural inclination). And he loves falsehood due to his desires and lusts. The shift towards success or loss defends on what he gives preference to.”

Allaah (The Blessed and Exalted) said:

”Then, for him who Tagha (transgressed) and preferred the life of this world (by following his evil desires and lusts), Verily, his abode will be Hell-fire; But as for him who feared standing before his Lord, and restrained himself from impure evil desires, and lusts. Verily, Paradise will be his abode.” [An-Naazi’aat. Ayah:37-41]

And you can say: Allaah (The Blessed and Exalted) is on one side and (a person’s evil) desires are on another side (in opposition to what Allaah has commanded and prohibited).  Allaah (The Most High) said:

”Have you (O Muhammad) seen him who has taken as his ilah (god) his own desire? Would you then be a Wakil (a disposer of his affairs or a watcher) over him? Or do you think that most of them hear or understand? They are only like cattle; nay, they are even farther astray from the Path. (i.e. even worst than cattle).” [Soorah Al-Furqaan. Aayaat 43-44]

And Allaah (The Most High) said:

”Have you seen him who takes his own lust (vain desires) as his ilah (god), and Allah knowing (him as such), left him astray, and sealed his hearing and his heart, and put a cover on his sight. Who then will guide him after Allah? Will you not then remember?” [Soorah Al-Jaathiyah. Ayah 23]

If a person fears being amazed with himself—Al-Allaamah Muqbil Bin Haadi

Al-Allaamah Muqbil Bin Haadi Al-Waadi’ee (rahimahullaah) said:

If a person fears being amazed with himself, then let him not compare himself with (his) contemporaries, (rather) look at Haafidh Ibn Hajr or Al-Haafidh Ibn katheer, Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah and other than them amongst the Huffaadh.

Our Salaf: Al’Hasan Al’Basri—The Believer has a good suspicion of his Lord….

Al-Hasan Al-Basri (rahimahullaah) said:

”Indeed, the believer has a good suspicion of  his Lord and then (strives to) perfect his deeds. And indeed, the hypocrite has an evil suspicion of his Lord and then (engages) in evil deeds.”

Our Salaf—Knowledge and Action [Sufyaan Bin Uyaynah and Al-Hasan Al-Basri]

Sufyaan Bin Uyaynah (rahimahullaah) said:

”If my morning is like that of the foolish and my night is like that of the ignorant,

then what will I do with the knowledge I wrote down?”

Al-Hasan Al-Basri (rahimahullaah) said:

”When a man used to seek knowledge, it did not take long before (the effect) was seen in his eyesight; in his fear of Allaah; on his tongue; on his hands; in his prayer and his abstinence from the lawful but unnecessary worldly things.”

[Reported by Imaam Daarimi 385]

Shaikh Uthaymeen speaks about Imaams Bin Baaz and Albaani, and defends Shaikh Rabee and others…

When asked about Imaams Bin Baaz and Albaani (rahimahumallaah), Imaam Muhammad Bin Saaleh Al-Uthaymeen (rahimahullaah) stated that they are two Notable personalities amongst the Notable personalities of the Islamic nation in the field of hadeeth, in calling to Allaah and in combatting ahlul bidah. He then said that he knows them to be from the loftiest of the scholars in station and vastness in understanding of the religion, even though one of them posseses more understanding than the other; but both of them have goodness with them.

Then Imaam Muhammad Bin Saaleh Al-Uthaymeen (rahimahullaah) was asked about those who speak ill of the Scholars of Saudi, such as the likes of Shaikh Rabee and some of the scholars in Madeenah; so he (rahimahullaah) said that it is obligated upon them to restrain their tongues from speaking ill of the common Muslims, then how about their scholars.  And if it is the case that backbiting a common Muslim is from the major sins, then backbiting a scholar is much greater…

Our Salaf: Yunus Ibn Ubayd–I am amazed by three statements!

Yoonus Ibn Ubayd) [rahimahullaah] said: I am amazed by three statements! I am amazed by a statement of Muwarraq Al-Ajali, who said: ”I never said anything during anger, which I regretted during times of happiness.”

I am amazed by a statement of Muhammad Ibn Seereen, who said: ”I do not envy anyone for some worldly thing; for if he is going to be amongst the people of paradise, then how can I envy him for something of the worldly life, whilst he is destined for Paradise?! And if he is going to be amongst the people of the hell fire, then how can I envy him for something of the worldly life, whilst he is destined for the Hellfire?!”

And I am amazed by a statement of Hassaan Bin Abee Sinaan, who said: ”There is nothing easier for me than Wara (i.e. apprehensive fear); for if something is doubtful to me I leave it.”
