The Student of Knowledge Should Be A Role Model – Shaykh Zayd al Madkhalee (Rahimahullaah)

Al-‘Allaamah Zayd bin Muhammad Al-Madkhalee (may Allaah have mercy on him) said:

“If the student of knowledge deviates and he becomes ignorant like the ignorant people, and he becomes foolish and acts like the foolish,  then he has caused harm to the knowledge (that he has attained) and he has caused harm to himself and the people because the student of knowledge is a role model,  so let them be the best of examples in the islaamic creed and Sharee’ah [i.e. the rulings pertaining to acts of worship, dealings, manners]”

[2] Reminders From [Virtue of the Knowledge of the Salaf over the Knowledge of the Khalaf] -By Imaam Ibn Rajab [rahimahullaah]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

Indeed, [we] have been told about a people who were given knowledge but their knowledge did not benefit them; for even though this [knowledge] is actually ‘Beneficial Knowledge’, however its possessor was not benefited by it. Allaah [The Most High] said:

[مَثَلُ ٱلَّذِينَ حُمِّلُواْ ٱلتَّوۡرَٮٰةَ ثُمَّ لَمۡ يَحۡمِلُوهَا كَمَثَلِ ٱلۡحِمَارِ يَحۡمِلُ أَسۡفَارَۢا‌ۚ  – The likeness of those who were entrusted with the (obligation of the) Taurat (Torah) (i.e. to obey its commandments and to practise its legal laws), but who subsequently failed in those (obligations), is as the likeness of a donkey who carries huge burdens of books (but understands nothing from them). [Surah Al-Jumu’ah Ayah 5]

Allaah [The Most High] said:

[وَٱتۡلُ عَلَيۡهِمۡ نَبَأَ ٱلَّذِىٓ ءَاتَيۡنَـٰهُ ءَايَـٰتِنَا فَٱنسَلَخَ مِنۡهَا فَأَتۡبَعَهُ ٱلشَّيۡطَـٰنُ فَكَانَ مِنَ ٱلۡغَاوِينَ  – And recite (O Muhammad ) to them the story of him to whom We gave Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), but he threw them away, so Shaitan (Satan) followed him up, and he became of those who went astray….up to the statement of Allaah: [وَٱتَّبَعَ هَوَٮٰهُ‌ۚ   – and followed his own vain desire] [Surah Al-A’raaf Aayaat 175-176] [Ref 1]

And Allaah [The Most High] said:

[فَخَلَفَ مِنۢ بَعۡدِهِمۡ خَلۡفٌ۬ وَرِثُواْ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبَ يَأۡخُذُونَ عَرَضَ هَـٰذَا ٱلۡأَدۡنَىٰ  – Then after them succeeded an (evil) generation, which inherited the Book, but they chose (for themselves) the goods of this low life (evil pleasures of this world)…[up to the statement of Allaah]: وَدَرَسُواْ مَا فِيهِ‌ۗ And they have studied what is in it (the Book). [Surah Al-Araaf Aayaat 169-170]

The Fundamental Principles of The Deen Revolve Around Three Ahaadeeth

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

Imaam as-Sa’di [rahimahullaah] said that Imaam Ahmad [rahimahullaah] said: ”The Usool [Fundamental Principles of Islaam] revolves around three ahaadeeth:

1.”The lawful is clear and the unlawful is clear…”
2. ”Indeed, actions are judged by intentions…”
3. ”Whoever performs an action that is not from our affair [i.e. the Qur’aan and the authentic Sunnah] will have it rejected…”

Deeds either fall under commandments or prohibitions.  The first hadeeth- [The lawful is clear and the unlawful is clear] – is about unlawful actions. As for the second hadeeth– [Indeed, actions are judged by intention] – then commandments are either related to one’s intention and the aspiration of the heart, or the apparent physical actions, and thirdly these actions [i.e. acts of worship] are legislated in conformity with the Sunnah.

Remember Allah at All Times

The Messenger (صلى الله عليه و سلم) said to his cousin, Abdullaah ibn `Abbaas) whilst he was still a youth, “O young boy, surely I will teach you some words” and then he began to teach Abdullaah ibn `Abbaas. He said to him:

“Be mindful of Allāh and he will protect you, be mindful of Allāh and you will find him in-front of you. If you ask than ask of Allāh, and know that if all the people were to gather together to benefit you with something, they could not benefit you except with that which Allāh has already written for you – and if they were to gather together to harm you with anything they would not be able to harm you except with that which Allāh has already written and decreed for you. Indeed the pens have been lifted and the pages have dried.”

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

The Shaikh was also asked: How can we attain the [level] of Shaikh Bin Baaz’s knowledge and your [level in] knowledge?

Answer: We do not possess knowledge, [but] as for Shaikh Bin Baaz, yes he has knowledge [may Allaah forgive him and (grant) him mercy]; as for us, we are Masaakeen [i.e. poor, very lacking in our knowledge etc] like yourselves, but it is obligated on us to learn…

Superiority of Knowledge of The Religion Over Worldly Riches!

Some of the wise people said: Whoever is given knowledge (of the religion) and knowledge of the Qur’aan, then it is obligated (on him to be) aware of himself. He does not lower himself to the people of the Dunya (i.e. those with worldly riches) due to what they possess; for indeed he has been given better than what has been given to the people of the dunyah. That is because Allaah (The Most High) referred to the worldly life as ‘A Short Enjoyment, saying: [قُلۡ مَتَـٰعُ ٱلدُّنۡيَا قَلِيلٌ۬ – Say: Short is the enjoyment of this world] and He referred to knowledge and the Qur’aan as [خَيۡرً۬ا ڪَثِيرً۬ا‌ۗ- Abundant good].

[1] Ijtihaad and Taqleed: [Thorns in the throat of the Prattler and Stooge of The Hizbiyyoon at Markaz As’Sunnah (Stoke On Trent) – The One Submerged In Self-Inflicted Ambiguity, Confusion and Ignorance]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

Introduction

Shaykh Saalih al-Fawzaan, hafidhahullaah said: “As for the permissible form of blind-following (at-taqleedul-mubaah), then it is for the common person (aamee) who, if he does not follow the people of knowledge, then he will stray from the path. Allaah, the Mighty and Majestic, said: ”Ask the people of knowledge if you do not know” .[An-Nahl 16:43]

And taqleed is not done to just anyone. Rather, it is done to one who is accredited with knowledge and piety and is known to the people for this.

Shaykhul-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah, rahimahullaah, said: “When a Muslim is faced with a problamatic situation, he should seek a verdict from one whom he believes will give him a verdict based upon what Allaah and His Messenger have legislated; whatever school of thought (madhhab) he belongs to. It is not obligatory upon any Muslim to blindly follow a particular individual from the scholars in all that he says. Nor is it obligatory upon any Muslim to blindly follow a particular madhhab from the scholars in all that it necessitates and informs. Rather, every person’s saying is taken or left, except that of the Allaah’s Messenger sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam. To follow the madhhab of a particular individual because of an inability of knowing what has been legislated, is from that which is permissible; it is not from that which is obligatory upon every individual – if they have the ability to know what has been legislated without this path of blind-following (taqleed). So each individual should fear Allaah as much as he is able, and seek knowledge of what Allaah and His Messenger have ordered; doing what is commanded and keeping away from that which is forbidden. “

Shaykhul-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah also said: “As for the one who has the ability to perform ijtihaad, is it permissible for him to do taqleed? About this there is a difference of opinion, with the correct opinion being that it is permissible in cases where he is unable to perform ijtihaad; either due to the proofs being similar, or due to a time constraint in being able to perform ijtihaad, or due to the proof not being apparent to him. So in cases where he is unable, the obligation of ijtihaad is lifted from him due to this inability.”

The Prohibited Forms of Taqleed

Ibn al-Qayyim, rahimahullaah, said about the prohibitted types of taqleed:

“It is of three types:- Firstly: totaly turning away from what Allaah has revealed, but rather being satisfied with the taqleed of ones for-fathers.

Secondly: doing taqleed of someone when you do not know whether that person is from those whose saying can be taken.

Thirdly: doing taqleed after the proofs have been established and it becomes apparent that the evidence contradicts the view of the one to whom taqleed is done.”

Imaam Ahmad bin Hanbal, rahimahullaah, said: “How strange it is that a people who know the chain of narratiuon of a hadeeth (isnaad) and its authenticity, yet still they follow the opinion of Sufy aan [ath-Thawree]; even though Allaah, the Exalted, said:

Let those beware, who oppose the command of the Messenger, lest some trial (fitnah) befalls them, or a painful punishment is inflicted upon them. [Soorah an-Noor 24:63].

Do you know what the fitnah is? The fitnah is shirk! Since the rejection of some of his sayings could cause something of deviation to enter into the heart, and thus be destroyed.”

Shaykh Abdur-Rahmaan ibn Hasan (the grandson of Muhammad ibn Abdul-Wahab), rahimahullaah, said: “In the words of Imaam Ahmad, rahimahullaah, is an indication that doing taqleed before the proofs reach a person is not blameworthy. Rather, the one who is to be censured is that person to whom the proofs reach, yet he opposes them due to [adhering to] the saying of his scholar. “ [Source: Salafipublications.com Article Id : MNJ060005 ]

Manhaj Questions and Answers on the Opposers, Innovators, on Companionship, Tabdee, Hajar and Related Affairs [By Shaykh Muhammad bin Haadee al-Madkhalee]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

Indeed, the noble Salafi teachers – both the younger ones and those over the age of forty- in the Masaajid and Centres are busy teaching the books of Aqeedah and Fiqh, and the elder students- in particular – are busy nurturing the youngsters and the new comers to Salafiyyah; however this does not mean that one becomes oblivious of those other very important affairs of the Manhajus Salafi, knowledge and sound stances that safeguarded many of us by the Tawfeeq of Allaah.

It is very important to bear in mind that many of those elder students at Salafipublications who were guided to the sound Salafi Methodology realised the importance of transmitting some very important clarifications of the scholars regarding the manner in which a Salafi approaches the Mukhaalifoon (the opposers), the Mumayyi’oon (those who seek to dilute the sound Salafi stances against the deviants) and the Hizbiyyoon (the illegal partisans). We are not saying that one merely reads and then goes out to apply these clarifications straight away; rather one reads and asks the students, especially those students who transmitted these clarifications and have numerous tapes in refutation against ahlul bidah (people of innovation).

Indeed, those clarifications compiled years ago are still relevant and we cannot shy away from them. However, it must be emphasised that we always refer back to the students in the Maraakiz, especially the elder ones, to advise us whenever we face certain situations in relation to dealing with the Mukhaalifeen, the Mu’mayyi’oon, the Hizbiyyoon and the people of Bidah, or when giving Dawah to a person who is confused about certain affairs related to the Salafi Manhaj. We ask Allaah for Ikhlaas, Thabaat and Husnul Khaatimah Aameen. So benefit from the likes of the following articles at salafipublications.com
